The crash was virus based. I don't run anti-virus. I never have, that is, for ever. And I've never actually been infected with a virus, until about two weeks ago.
I won't go into the details, but it was ugly. Luckily I was able to hack around to save my files.
Instead of reinstalling XP-Pro, I opted for the Windows 7 beta. I almost have it configured to my liking, but I can't establish a VPN connection to work, which is a pain in the ass.
7 seems pretty awesome, actually. I'm quite impressed by the flexibility and fixes to annoyances we've all lived with since win 95.
I'll report back on my findings... but if you are still trying to get in touch with me, it may be awhile... I'm still not back into 300% productivity mode from home...
